On 16th of October 2008, the 30th anniversary of Karol Wojtyla' election to be a Pope will be celebrated. About this date it was arisen the idea to create an unusual internet project - the private album of photos and memories concerning the Pope John Paul II.
The nationwide internet project - „John Paul II - our memories" (located on the web www.mojpapiez.pl) is an effort of collecting and systemizing the preserved photos and memories concerning Pope John Paul II. In this way, the national gallery of John Paul II is being created as a multidimensional portrait of polish Pope's pontificate preserved in the memory of Poles on the Internet. The result of this collection will be the biggest national album of John Paul II created by common people. Some photos from this album will be included in the special edition of album that will be published on the 30th anniversary of Karol Wojtyla' election to be a Pope.
As an IT partner of this event, we designed and create a whole Web 2.0 portal in a complex way. The users of the website have a possibility of sharing their memories, thoughts, archival photo collections and movies from the meetings linked to John Paul II.
On the website, the memories in textual format, photos film and audiovisual files are being collected. The users may add and view the photos, vote for ones that should be added in their opinion to the published album, view the photos according to many criteria such as: place of taking, event, key words, time of taking. Each user may create their own individual photo album choosing the photos from all available on the website. On the service the photos are taken either by proffessionalists or laymen.
The users my write their own memories, memories and thoughts that link to certain photo and comment the others' memories.
Website functions for net surfers:
- insertion of photos connected with JP2,
- insertion of memories connected with JP2,
- insertion of audio and video files,
- viewing the photos, films, audio files,
- commenting and grading the photos, memories, audio and video files,
- viewing the rankings.
The nationalwide internet project "John Paul II - our memories" was designed to preserve the memories and pictures of important moments that we experienced together with John Paul II. The collected photos, films and personal memories will give a view of the epoch of great occurrences and landmarks of John Paul II's pontificate.
16th of October 2008 is a date when the album John Paul II - our memories will be solemnly presented. In this event of memories will take part the artist from all over the word, which met John Paul II and for whom it was very important occurrence. It won't be an ordinary concert, but the reflective meeting with people that are joined by one idea. It will be available for the people all over the word thanks to the transmission on the television and the Internet.
The project is created under the patronage of Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz. The media sponsorship is represented by: Telewizja Polska, Polskie Radio, INTERIA.PL, Dziennik POLSKA, Gość Niedzielny, Katolicka Agencja Informacyjna, Izba Gospodarcza Reklamy Zewnętrznej.
